Glenpatrick Water Coolers Supports Gavin Finnegan in the Dublin Marathon

blog

In this month’s blog Glenpatrick Water Coolers will be cheering on our colleague Gavin Finnegan who is participating in this year’s Dublin City Marathon. The Dublin Marathon is an annual marathon event taking place in Dublin. It is normally held on the last Monday in October and has been held each year since 1980. The Marathon is internationally known as the ‘Friendly Marathon’ and this year takes place on the October Bank Holiday – Sunday 30th October 2016. The course starts at Fitzwilliam Square in the city centre and finishes at Merrion Square. The route goes through the Phoenix Park and along to the historical Georgian Streets of Dublin where thousands of spectators line the streets to cheer you on and to encourage you to keep going! Gavin has good experience with marathons prior to this. So for this month’s blog we caught up with Gavin to ask him questions on his experiences and to get any insight or advice into his preparation that might be of benefit to other athletes interested in long distance running.

Is this your first Dublin marathon?

No this will be my third Dublin Marathon! I also did the Dublin Marathon in -2012 & 2013.

How many marathons have you participated in to date?

Are you in the marathon with a view to finish first (or as far up the ranks as you can) or do you just do it as a fun way to keep yourself fit?

What was your highest place finish in any marathon?

How important is water for your preparation in the weeks leading up to a marathon?

Have you found any alternative fluid to be more effective than water during the marathon?

During a marathon at which mile mark do you first take water?

What would be your primary preparation advice to any aspiring marathon athletes thinking about doing next year’s Dublin City Marathon?

We have equipped Gavin with a utility belt full of Glenpatrick water & we fully expect him to bring home the gold! I can confirm that if he finishes in 1st place he can have the Tuesday off work to rest up & rehydrate.
Thanks Gavin & Good luck from all of your colleagues back in the office!
